Life with Lapis

As a foundation male in our program, Lapis has given us so much to be proud of, but perhaps his greatest legacy is the relationship he shares with our children. He has an incredibly special bond with our oldest son, who has been by his side since the minute we brought him home. Adrian shows Lapis in 4-H, UKC & AKC Junior showmanship, but their proudest accomplishment was in the AKC Breed Ring. Adrian did a wonderful job handling Lapis and helping him earn those final points toward his Grand Championship! The two are truly a remarkable team.

Lapis finished his AKC Grand Championship in March 2026, at the Peninsula Dog Fanciers Club show. The FDC at the end of his registered name represents his AKC Farm Dog Certified title – another reflection of his versatility and willingness to simply go along with his people.

And while Lapis can step into the conformation ring and hold his own, he is just as happy playing in the PeeWee ring, where our younger children can learn to handle and show with him. He is exceptionally patient and willing, making him a wonderful teacher for the next generation of our family.

At home, Lapis is exactly the kind of dog we cherish. He is incredibly affectionate and loves nothing more than attention, belly rubs, and being close to his family. For a Miniature American Shepherd, he is exceptionally laid-back and incredibly chill, with a notably low drive. He has a wonderful off-switch and brings an easy, steady presence to our home.

Lapis is a blue merle with OFA hips rated Good and Normal elbows, and his DNA panel is All clear. As a sire, he has already begun leaving his mark on our program, producing Sapphire with Bon Bon, and Diamond and Emerald with Catalina. He is a beloved member of our family, and we are so thankful to have him as the foundation of Shamayim Acres.
